There has been some major changes over at Greensboro based VF Corp. It will split its outdoor segment - which includes brands such as The North Face, Jansport and Vans - into two separate units. Dave Gatto, current president of VF Outdoor Americas, is leaving as part of the reorganization. VF said its Outdoor Americas unit will include the North Face, JanSport and Eagle Creek brands. It will be overseen by Steve Rendle, 49, currently president of The North Face. The second unit, action sports Americas, will include Vans and Reef brands. It will be led by current Vans president Stephen Murray, 48. These changes will become effective Feb. 1. I also wanted to be clear on all the brands owned by the VF Corp. Its pretty crazy stew. I knew about a few but I after looking at this list I wont be able look at a pair of Vans the same way. Under the Vf Corp umbrella is 7 "For all mankind" (7 For All Mankind is a true premium denim lifestyle brand with men’s, kid’s, handbag and footwear collections), 20X "Country Western denim" (The 20X® line brings jeans, shirts and accessories to men, women and kids), Bulwark, Red Kap, Chef Designs and The Force (Their line of work clothes), Aura,Lee, Rustler, Riders and Wrangler brand denim, Jansport and EastPak backpacks, EagleCreek and Napapijri travel bags, The North Face (Outdoors clothing), Nautica, Majestic Athletic wear (baseball uniforms), LUCY Activewear (beautifully designed lifestyle apparel that inspires women to live healthy, active, balanced lives – with style), John Varvatos® (The John Varvatos lifestyle collection has an eclectic point of view that pairs luxurious with casual, ultimately creating a look of easy elegance), Kipling ( Kipling® products are driven by design. Across Europe and in over 55 countries, our bags, footwear)and Vans!
Apparently they have been very busy and they are about to get busier with their new project, the acquisition of the DC Shoe brand from Quicksilver!
Unfortunately the general feel in the action sports industry is that Quicksilver will be losing one of its most promising brands. In 2007 they took a hit of $98 million dollars and currently has an uncommitted debt of $167 million. The influx of cash seems like it would be a necessity to sustain the Quicksilver brand and all of its assets. They sold off their Cleveland Golf division in December of 2007 so the current Quicksilver umbrella known as "ZQK" consists of Rossignol, Roxy, the Quicksilver line and the soon to depart DC Shoes.
Since the announcement of the potential DC Shoe line to VF, VF stocks have risen $1.85 and ZQK stock is up $.75 80hat.com
